About

Was it not for these woolly little creatures we wouldn’t have a story to tell … the story of Hermanuspietersfontein, however, is fact, not fable. Overberg farmers of the early 1800s preferred their children to be schooled in Dutch, a forerunner of Afrikaans. They paid farm teacher Hermanus Pieters in sheep, which grazed at a spring under the Milkwood trees near the sea. In 1855, long after his passing, the village was founded in his honour, only for the postmaster in 1902 to shorten the name to Hermanus. 150 years later we relive the past by naming our cellar brand Hermanuspietersfontein and decided a sheep should tell our modern-day tales. In memory of Hermanus Pieters and the passion of the people of the 1800s, we committed our wine names and labels to be exclusively Afrikaans.

• Bloos... playfully dubbed "the shy girl with long legs - with no reason to be shy".
• A rosé wine made with a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Semillon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Viognier.
• 1-month maturation with French oak alternatives.
• On the nose expect fresh red strawberries with cream, undertones of dark berries and pleasant floral notes.
• The palate is fresh, a perfect balance between texture, lightness, and length.
• Pair with light meals such as summer salads, light seafood dishes, or charcuterie and cheese platters.

• The postmaster of the 1800s played an important role in the history of the Hermanuspietersfontein brand. 
• Matured on French oak alternatives for 3-6 months.
• Bottle matured for a further 12 months. 
• Brick red to purple in colour.
• Red fruit, and spice on the nose.
• An elegant Merlot offering fresh fruit and generous drinkability. 
• Accessible, confirming his reputation as an everyday favourite.
