About

So who is Gertie? This unique rum is named after Gertrude Lythgoe, the legendary first female rum runner in the prohibition era. She was a risk-taker, she was strong, independent, competitive, loyal and trustworthy. These are all traits that Gertie’s rum stands for and hopefully, there are a few of Gertie’s characteristics in all of us.

Product Features
  • Using a unique wine yeast, the rum is triple distilled and then placed in ex-Bourbon American Oak barrels to mature and extract colour, for a minimum of six months.
  • When ready for bottling, the white rum is “washed” and then bottled.
  • The white rum retains a slight gold tinge showing that it still retains some of the lovely woodiness from the barrel.
  • The casks used are 100% American oak, ex-bourbon casks, custom coopered and charred to a 50L barrels.
  • Nose: Rich in caramelized sugar and honey liqueur, yet packed with a punch of orange zest and ginger
  • Palate: Warm spice, nutmeg, toasted nuts and dried apricots

Here at OneDayOnly we pride ourselves on two things:

Our remarkable ability to remember quotes from practically any movie, and our skill in catering to almost any person in South Africa.

The latter is the harder of the two, because A) we haven't met everyone in the R of SA and 2) our personal tastes can hardly be used as a benchmark for things other people may enjoy.

Still, through sheer determination and never-miss-an-episode viewings of Egoli and Generations, we like to think we hit the proverbial nail on the head more often than not.

And in the almost unfathomable event that we're completely wrong and nothing on our cyber-shelves appeals to you, we'd like to leave you with the following gem from Lord of the Rings:

"Use the force, Harry." - Edward Cullen.
