Waterford Whisky’s CEO, Mark Reynier, known for reviving Bruichladdich and creating Port Charlotte and Octomore, set out to recreate authentic peated whisky in Ireland. With Minch Malt, he explored whether terroir could stand out against peat by using two Single Farm Origin barleys. Finding quality Irish peat proved difficult, with no working kilns left, requiring Scottish expertise.
The result rivals Islay whiskies in peat levels yet remains distinctly Irish, with barley character shining through. Limited to 11,500 bottles worldwide, only 500 are available in South Africa.
