Johan Venter is one of the defining figures in South African brandy. After leading Distell’s premium spirits division and shaping iconic brands such as Klipdrift, Van Ryn’s and Oude Meester, he founded The Inventer as a personal legacy project dedicated to authentically South African spirits. Drawing on decades of global judging experience, a master’s degree in microbiology, and time spent refining whisky blends in Scotland, Venter creates rare, small-batch expressions that combine international craftsmanship with unmistakable local character.
