In 2016, Johann Rupert agreed to sponsor the Old Vine Project and André Morgenthal and Jaco Engelbrecht were appointed after both having been informally involved with the project for some years. The “Cape of Good Hope” project tells a story of our land, culture and history through the vinification of some of the oldest vines in the Western Cape.

Product Features

• Award: 4 Star Platter 2023.
• The wine was aged in 225L French oak barrels for approximately 10 to 12moths. 
• No new oak was used for aging this wine.
• A gentle herbaceous base note of dried lavender underpins more typical fynbos as well as blue and black fruit on the nose.
• A structured, elegant yet powerful wine, the palate delivers black cherry, plum and dried herb flavours with a subtle punctuation of black pepper. 
• Layered and complex, the ripe fruit is both succulent and beautifully integrated with the oak, which adds a light, dry tannin frame. 
• The finish is long and refined.
• Enjoy with braised beef.
