The Great Heart Wine Company is the vision of Andrea & Chris Mullineux, to realise a mechanism for equity and meaningful transformation through fantastic wine and inspirational vineyards. Established in 2020, Great Heart Wines is a winery 100% owned and run by the employees of both the Mullineux and Leeu Passant wineries who directly profit from the wine sales and see the shareholders involved in all the stages of the viticulture and winemaking. Great Heart winemaker Gynore Hendricks, a graduate of the Cape Winemaker’s Guild Protege Program, works in the winery with vineyards hailing from the Swartland, Stellenbosch and Elgin, resulting in wines that have a beautiful natural intensity, complexity, and a true sense of place.
Product Features
- Grapes for our 2020 Great Heart Swartland Red came from dry-farmed bush vine (goblet) parcels in the Swartland, aged 16-40 years.
- We follow reasoned farming practices, including the use of using cover crops, mulch, beneficial insects, and home-made composts.
- Maturation: 18 months in 3rd and 4th fill French oak 225L & 500L barrels and 5000L foudre.
- The perfumed nose has notes of plums, mulberries, cloves and black pepper.
- The palate is full but firm and fresh, with lovely fruit, spice and length.
- Pairs well with grilled meats and vegetables as well as tomato-based pasta dishes.
