About

The making of vintage-only Krone Cap Classique is directed by nature: from soil to vine to bottle. Our winemaking team channels the rain, the sun, the wind into structure, complexity and balance—and seals it all with a cork. The site-specific rocky soils of Tulbagh are like nowhere else in the Cape Winelands.

Product Features

Borealis Cuvée Brut 2022

  • Awards: 4 Star Platter, 90 Points International Wine & Spirits Competition, Gold Veritas.
  • Previous vintage awards: Gold Michelangelo, 4 Star Platter, 90 Points Tim Atkin, Gold Gilbert & Gaillard, Silver Amorim Cork Cap Classique Challenge.
  • Krone Borealis is bottle-fermented and then matured on the lees for 18 months in the underground cellar.
  • The characteristic oyster shell of the Borealis is there, flinty and intense, alongside powdery white flowers, white peach and crisp green apples.
  • The cooler growing conditions of this vintage resolves with a tight, energetic palate; the fruit is fresh and clean against a chalky texture.
  • Peach and melon grow and evolve into glacé pineapple and a whip of lemon curd.
  • Extended lees time and a lower level of tirage deliver autolytic biscuity intensity and a fine, persistent bubble, to a long, radiant finish.
  • Enjoy with steamed mussels.
  • Varietals: 67% Chardonnay, 27% Pinot Noir, 6% Pinot Blanc
  • Alcohol by Volume: 11.49%

Rosé Cuvée Brut 2022

  • Awards: 4 Star Platter, Gold Veritas.
  • Krone Cuvée Brut Rosé is bottle-fermented and then matures on the lees in the underground cellar.
  • Aromatics of crushed pink quartz, chalk, rose talc, hibiscus in bloom.
  • An explosion of cherry blossoms, the light curling through.
  • Waves of strawberry and cranberry freshness weave through the lifted palate along a seam of superfine bubbles, zest of blood orange and mandarin peel radiates toward the edges.
  • The acidity is pure and structural,
  • A touch of earth, and creamy kiss of lees, before tapering into a liquid minerality and a dry, strawberry-hued finish.
  • Enjoy on its own, or with salmon.
  • Varietals: 92% Pinot Noir, 8% Chardonnay
  • Alcohol by Volume: 12.19%

Night Nectar Demi-Sec 2022

  • Awards: 4 Star Platter, Gold Veritas.
  • Bottle-fermented and then matures on the lees in the underground cellar.
  • The scent of waxy honeycomb and crushed limes.
  • The cinnamon smoke of apple pie, cloves, golden apples, baking citrus and white roses spill over into the plush, fruity palate.
  • Lime, honey and juicy apples pool alongside creamy white pear and peach.
  • White river pebbles follow a stony spine to nectarines bursting with juice.
  • An indulgent note of lemon drop opulence folds into salted caramel before the refreshing, poised finish.
  • Enjoy on its own, or with creamy and fragrant butter chicken curry.
  • Varietals: 67% Chardonnay, 27% Pinot Noir, 6% Pinot Blanc
  • Alcohol by Volume: 11.29%

Night Nectar Demi-Sec Rosé 2021

  • Award: 4 Star Platter.
  • A red fruit riot; summer strawberries, cranberries and raspberries dipped in powdered sugar.
  • Sweet and light, tangy on the palate, pomegranate arils, like jewels, a fine seamed acidity and satin mousse.
  • Succulent citrus woven in tight, sewing in a refreshing stony line.
  • Whipped cream dented with maraschino cherries.
  • Energetic, clean fruit on the mid-palate.
  • The red-berried pinot noir tailors more savoury to the finish, ending lemony fresh with cranberry nuance.
  • Enjoy on its own, or with grilled prawns.
  • Varietals: 92% Pinot Noir, 8% Chardonnay
  • Alcohol by Volume: 11.73%

Desperately Seeking Space

Dear Agony Auntie,

I'm in a bit of a pickle. I recently went on a trip, and, like any Joburger would, overpacked. Fast forward, and it turns out that OR Tambo takes weight limits very seriously. In a bizarre striptease, pulling out clothes and shoving them into my carry-on, I was involved in a heated argument with the x-ray machine.

Was I wrong? Are the air gods mad at me? Any tips on travelling light, or should I just invest in a larger bag?

Dear anonymous,

You were probably wrong. Packing is a fine art, and it takes experience to master the balance between "I might need this" and "I won't wear this once." But don't let this luggage fiasco ground your spirits! Fly through future trips stress-free by investing in our deal on a Mooistar 3-Piece Hard Shell Luggage Set.
