The Icarus range. Named after the soaring mythical Greek character, the label is a reflection of the mountain peaks that surround the estate, the Lategan family's passion for flight, and the driving pursuit of excellence that pervades Bergsig's wines, from vine to bottle. The Icarus blends represent the pinnacle of blending craftsmanship in the Bergsig wine portfolio

Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Riesling
Blended from three separately fermented cultivars. Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc were fermented in small oak barrels, left on the lees and matured for 12 months. Riesling was tank-fermented in a flinty style.
Mediterranean climate with ± 980mm rainfall per year. The Estate is located in the upper slopes of the Breede River Valley at 240 – 350m above sea level. Winters are cold with snow until late in Spring. Temperatures during Spring are low resulting in slower ripening. Harvest usually starts 2 – 3 weeks later than other wine areas. Significant temperature variation with warm days ensures good sugar development while the drop in temperature at night preserves the balance of natural acids in the grapes. The soil is defined by a major geological fault, the Worcester Fault, which runs through the valley. Hills are composed of weathered sandstone and the valley floor is sedimented by a diversity of soil parent materials.
Ours is about 3 feet by 3 feet, and on our left is the account's block. The marketing block is down the hall.
We're joking. Obviously.
Ours is at least 5 by 5, and on Wednesdays we're allowed to write in coffee shops to maintain the illusion that we're "successful" and "writerly".
Coming up with a write up for the simple sake of a write up does, however, become difficult when we're staring complete lack of creativity right in the face. But apparently asking management to cancel all the deals for the day isn't a viable fix.
As they so delicately put it, it'd be like a comedian having the option to suddenly cancel a show if they're not feeling up to it. Not on our watch, they said. You'll do a write up whether you like it or not, they said. And be funny, they said.
So here we are, doing a write up and being funny.
