Avontuur Estate has been producing quality wine grapes for more than 140 years and this historical commitment is still reflected today in the range of award-winning wines. New vineyards allow winemaker Jan van Rooyen extra scope to refresh, fine-tune and cross blend. The region is producing some of the countries most layered and intense fruit-driven reds in the country. The passion that Philip Taberer and Jan are investing in the farm is clearly evident in the quality of wines produced from these pristine vineyards.
The wine has firm tannins and an elegant, juicy mouth-feel whilst the subtle oak regime gives the wine backbone but also softens the taste experience. Ripe fruit and mocha follow-through from the nose making this wine a perfect companion to full-flavoured foods and red meats.
Ripe purple plums and dark cherries provide an intense upfront fruit explosion which develops into a slight earthiness with whiffs of sweet spice and mocha/chocolate
