Vineyard Practices
The second Pinotage vintage from Vierkoppen is the definite favorite on the farm. Easy drinking but with sufficient complexity. It will only get better with age!
The wine is barrel aged in a mixture of French and American oak for 18 months and blended with a small amount of the same wine from the tank which brings fruit to the palate. A full bodied Pinotage with that distinctive, but soft and smokey pinotage bouquet, well integrated tannins, vanilla , coffee and juicy bramble flavours on the palate. It will age well and pairs with red meat especially beef and game. Perfect to accompany the braai! Just 3000 bottles produced. Made for us by the aptly named and talented Alkie van der Merwe.
The terroir is sandy soil overlaying Cape sandstone and shale and the climate is Mediterranean semiarid with a mainly Winter rainfall
