Honeybush is high in antioxidants, particularly flavones, isoflavones, coumestans, luteolin, 4-hydroxycinnamic acid, polyphenols and xanthones. These antioxidants possess natural anti-inflammatory properties and have been shown to assist in lowering blood lipid levels and regulating blood sugar levels, which is great for diabetics. The presence of mangiferin and hesperidin make honeybush tea a great bone support – mangiferin has been shown to inhibit the formation of osteoclasts, which break down bone tissue, while hesperidin promotes the formation and maintenance of osteoblasts, which are new bone cells.
