About

Mooiplaas Wine Estate and Private Nature Reserve boast a pristine natural beauty. Owned and managed by Tielman and Louis Roos, the Mooiplaas vineyards lie on steep slopes of ancient mineral-rich soils in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch, overlooking Cape Town.

Mooiplaas is a historic and traditional working wine estate, bought by Nicolaas Roos in 1963. He was joined by his two sons Tielman, viticulturist, (1980) and Louis, winemaker (1983). They celebrated 50 years on the farm in 2013. The history of the farm dates back to 1806, with the manor house on the estate – a national monument – an impressive example of Cape Dutch architecture.

Tielman and Louis produce a range of environmentally friendly wines rooted in tradition and artisan techniques to reflect the unique terroir.

Tasting Notes

  • A medium-bodied Pinotage, driven by mocha notes, cigar box and chocolate. A table wine which won't disappoint the pinotage lover.

More about the vintage

  • Extremely dry year, but still an excellent crop (see the grape analysis). An outstanding vintage, no heat waves, and low night temperatures together with the dry summer

Here at OneDayOnly we pride ourselves on two things:

Our remarkable ability to remember quotes from practically any movie, and our skill in catering to almost any person in South Africa.

The latter is the harder of the two, because A) we haven't met everyone in the R of SA and 2) our personal tastes can hardly be used as a benchmark for things other people may enjoy.

Still, through sheer determination and never-miss-an-episode viewings of Egoli and Generations, we like to think we hit the proverbial nail on the head more often than not.

And in the almost unfathomable event that we're completely wrong and nothing on our cyber-shelves appeals to you, we'd like to leave you with the following gem from Lord of the Rings:

"Use the force, Harry." - Edward Cullen.
