About

Ultimate Braai Master and MasterChef South Africa judge, veteran food columnist and one of South Africa’s most recognisable celebrity chefs, Pete Goffe-Wood has done his time in some of the best restaurants in the country. An invaluable gastronomic guru for South African foodies. A Life Digested charts a path through Pete’s culinary experiences, from his early amorous endeavours to his take on tricky customers, picky eaters and the top restaurants he has worked in, dined at and run over the years.

During the screening of the MasterChef South Africa 2013 series, TV viewers were both fascinated by, and impressed with, the Van der Wat sisters. Seline and Leandri's relationship and their varying cooking styles and personalities kept audiences on the edge of their seats right up until the final episode as they were ultimately placed second and third - no mean achievement. With TWO, they present a fascinating cookbook concept: taking the same main ingredient and creating two different dishes from it, or taking a classic recipe and making one for family and casual dining, and the other version to impress for serious entertaining.

A Life Digested

Each chapter of this recipe book is driven by stories Pete's written over the past 10 years and which revolve around what he finds most important as a cook. From how travelling influences your repertoire and teaching men to reclaim their skills in the kitchen to learning from masters (both lauded and unsung) or simply cooking over open coals – each chapter gives you a taste of Pete’s life, his opinions (of which there are plenty) and his dishes.

Two

Since their great success on MasterChef SA, Seline and Leandri's foodie careers took off, albeit in differing directions. But in TWO, they are back in collaboration to present a really fascinating cookbook concept: taking the same main ingredient and creating two different dishes from it, or taking a classic recipe and making one for family and casual dining, and the other version to impress for serious entertaining.

You shouldn't be reading this

You should be out making the most of the public holiday. If you are reading this, it puts us in a bit of a tight spot.

For starters, it means we need to actually write something. That might not sound like much of a commitment, but that's only because you don't know how chronically lazy we are.

And on a long weekend, no less.

But on the other hand, we love sales. To a large extent, we have to. They pay the bills and allow us to spend money on things like spontaneous vacations to Singapore.
