The Cape’s first farm, established in 1682, has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Just 20 minutes from the bustling heart of the Mother City, Steenberg feels miles from the world.
Their easy drinking red wine is medium bodied with a distinct dark berry nose and dark chocolate, dried prunes and leather, complemented by soft tones of cedar wood. These aromas are carried through onto the palate, creating a well-balanced and structured wine.

Vinification
The wine has good fruit concentration, supported by firm structure and a wonderfully accessible palate. The different cultivars are harvested and fermented separately. Once they are crushed and de-stemmed, the grapes are fermented on the skins in stainless steel tanks at about 28°C for 10 days, with two pump-overs per day. Hereafter they are pressed and taken to barrel for malolactic fermentation and aged for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd fill French and American oak. The blended wine then undergoes a light fining before bottling.
