Finally reaching the big leagues, wines from the region are beginning to receive the highest awards that the industry has to offer. Fire Heath, found in the majestic valley of Walker Bay, forms part of the indigenous “fynbos” of the area. The Fire Heath plant indicates the terroir of the valley and is very important to the final characteristics of the wine. It consists of free-draining, low potential and slightly acidic soils, which naturally gives life to open fields, of low-growing woody vegetation – “fynbos”.
The wine is detailed with citrus fruit, limes and tangerine, pear skin and yellow flowers add depth. The wine is tightly wound and held together with a mineral backbone resulting from the vineyard location – the combination of fruit, delicate spices and raw almond shavings, gives immense drinking pleasure.
