About

Mindful that no single vineyard can satisfy the needs of all grape varieties, Neil Ellis set out to identify distinct terroir in which individual varieties will excel. He placed the emphasis not only on the environment but also on caring viticultural practices by a dedicated team of growers which extends through to the winemaking practices.

Today the journey of Neil Ellis Wines is not only of Neil Ellis anymore. After four decades of making wine, the next stage of the journey has begun with Neil's son, Warren, sharing responsibilities of winemaker and viticulturist in the pursuit of quality winemaking. Neil's youngest son, Charl heads the financial team while his daughter Margot fulfills the role of brand manager.

Lifted aromas of dark ripe fruit, pepper and spice are complemented by plum notes. Well-balanced oak supports flavours of cherry, plums and fruit cake with sweetmid-palate on the finish. Medium intense colour with plum red and crimson hues.

The team at Neil Ellis Wines believes in responsible environmental practices. We aim to respect the soil, cut water use, recycle and reduce energy use and greenhouse emmissions. We are a member of the IPW, a voluntary environmental sustainability scheme, and comply to their regulations.

RESPECT THE SOIL

  • Cover crops are planted between rows to eliminate erosion.
  • All our grapes are handpicked to minimise soil compaction.
  • We aim towards the primary use of biological practises to avoid overuse of chemical sprays.
  • As part of rehabilitation program we remove alien plants to promote growth of indigenous vegetation such as fynbos.
