About

Between two mighty oceans, on the southern tip of Africa, lies the historic Saxenburg Wine Farm. Here, memory and the seasons conspire with the cellarmaster’s craft to produce unique wines of consistent and exceptional quality.

For centuries wayfarers bound for the East Indies found hospitality and relief at the Fairest Cape. At Saxenburg we extend this tradition and invite you to visit our world.

Officially proclaimed in 1693, Saxenburg is one of the oldest farms in South Africa.

Thanks to the combination of the perfect natural conditions and a highly skilled and driven team, our wines have won the highest praise, not only in South Africa, but around the rest of the world.

The terroir at Saxenburg is perfectly suited to Shiraz and it is thanks to this varietal that Saxenburg has become a prominent South African export. Thanks to our wine maker’s belief that exceptional wines are made on the vine, we practice a well-managed system of summer pruning to keep yields low. With fewer bunches left, grapes mature into a finer quality and less craft is required in the cellar.

Although famous for our Shiraz, many of our wines – reds, and whites – are enjoyed around the globe.

Tasting Notes

100% Chenin Blanc with classical Chenin Blanc flavours like guava, ripe pineapple and pear with some stone fruit and ripe gooseberries also prominent. Nice layers of fruit on the taste, with all the sensorial flavours prominent. The acidity supports the fruit and the crisp aftertaste.

Food Suggestions

A well-balanced wine that will complement a crispy bacon salad, sushi, fish dishes and most pasta dishes or to enjoy on its own.

Winemaker’s Comments

This 100% Chenin Blanc has a beautiful green tint in colour and shows very typical stone fruit aromas with hints of pineapple and apple flavours. The palate shows nice vibrant fruit that follows through to a great mid-palate weight with a lingering after taste. This Chenin Blanc has all the qualities to go well with food or to enjoy as it is on its own. Serve chilled and will go nice with a crispy pork belly or duck and most fish dishes.

Vinification

Only healthy grapes were picked early morning whilst the grape juice was still cool. The juice had skin contact then pressed while still cool. The grape juice settled for a day and the clear juice fermented cold with 2 different yeast strains for intense flavour. Long lees contact for complexity and no Malolactic fermentation.

Why do some people leave the microwave on 0:01?

And then just walk away like they haven't committed the biggest atrocity any kitchen has ever seen. They probably also make tea in the order: milk, hot water, sugar and then the tea bag.

It creates the perfect precipice of frustration: keep it bottled in and it'll eat away at you, but if you say something you're the overreacting party-pooper who sucks the fun out of everything.

We realise this might seem a little abstract (for context, somebody did this exact thing at the OneDayOnly headquarters at around 4 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon and it's been bugging us since) but it must be addressed on a grand scale so these perpetrators can understand the extent of their heinous crime.

Anyhoo, here are a truckload of great deals and if that doesn't immediately make you forget about all of your problems in the world, you clearly handle stress differently to us.
