About

Warwick Estate is a high-end South African winery in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. It has a rich history dating back to 1771.

From 1771 till 1902, Warwick was known as the farm ‘De Goede Sukses’. After the Anglo Boer war ended in 1902, Colonel William Alexander Gordon, Commanding Officer of the Warwickshire regiment bought the historic farm. He renamed it ‘Warwick’ as a tribute to his regiment.

1964, Norma & Stan Ratcliffe developed the land with extensive focus on planting Bordeaux varieties mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Through the years the estate won many illustrious wine awards and became a firmly iconic brand.

In 2017, Warwick was acquired by Charles Marston and Kishore Bopardikar through Eileses Capital, their investment fund with ambitions to build on the significant Warwick foundation and to take the estate to a new level of worldwide recognition. This was followed by the acquisition of the neighbouring Uitkyk Wine Farm from Distell. This purchase effectively extended the Warwick footprint to over 700 hectares of prime Simonsberg, Stellenbosch terroir.

The Simonsberg Mountains are at the centre of the Cape Winelands, approximately 45km from Cape Town. These striking mountains rise nearly 1400 metres above sea level and offer a spectacular divergence of slopes and ascents.

Vines are a bit like people. That is why we have chosen the vibrant younger vines for this energetic Cabernet so that the grapes deliver a wine that is full of life and perhaps a little cheeky…

Tasting Notes

Suitably flash yet elegant at the same time, the Warwick First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon is a rollercoaster of excitement. This perennial overachiever is laced with cherries, dark brooding chocolate, blackberries and licorice, all with a twist of leather right at the end. This wine is so full of flavour even your granny will do cartwheels.

Smooth and enticing, you’ll be lip-smacking until another glass is poured. What about barbecued beef brisket, slow grilled and tender with some creamy dijon mash and garlicky beans? Or even just a plate of cured salami and a wedge of pecorino, a drizzle of honey. In order to achieve the full flavours in this wine without making it too heavy, we use fruit from some of our younger vines. This allows a delicateness to pervade while still offering alluring length. Then the wine nestles, undisturbed in our cellars for 18 months with gentle exposure to French oak. The resulting wine is soft and moreish, and certainly ready to drink. No need to decant if you don’t want to, just make sure you chill it slightly if the weather is very hot.

Food Pairings

Sticky barbeque ribs, Rosemary and lemon marinated lamb chops or flammed grilled chicken wings.

24 hours isn't exactly a lot of time

Unless you're Jack Bauer, of course. Which you aren't. He's fictional - and unless artificial intelligence has come a long way in a short space of time, you're very much real.

If you consider yourself a professional procrastinator, 24 hours is barely enough time to read your emails, let alone respond. Especially if you sleep the recommended ten hours a night.

But it's all we give you to capitalise on our great deals.

And you've just wasted five minutes reading this and wondering how to make the simple act of email reading last a full work day.
